Chris began his career serving as an Assistant Attorney General in South Carolina. Later he joined the American Council of Life Insurers in Washington, DC where he managed state government relations and then served as Director of State Political Affairs, managing a state-focused political budget and aligning spending with national policy goals.
In 2003, Chris founded his own state government relations and issue advocacy firm based in Virginia. For almost a decade, his firm represented national corporations in multi-state lobbying campaigns before legislatures, state attorneys general and governors. His clients included industry leaders such as DaimlerChrysler, Honeywell, MassMutual and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
He has appeared on MSNBC and the Fox News Channel in addition to being quoted about state politics in New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.
